     “Little Switzerland” Britisher’s gave Ooty a pet name. And this pseudonym made it famous among the travelers all over then world. For them, its climate was quite similar to that of Switzerland, so they called it the “Little Switzerland”. Ooty, “the Queen of Hill Station” is located in Nilgiri’s hills are part of Western Ghats. Ooty provides spectacular views of the mountain ranges, breath taking valleys, tea estates, waterfalls, landscape garden and is one of the best places to watch nature unfold its beauties.

Hill Train :-

   The beautiful journey by the Nilgiri mountain toy train gives you really memorable experience, traveling at a speed of 33 km per hour, for train passes through 16 tunnels, forest clad hills and lush green tea plantations. The fresh clean air and the breath taking views are not forgotten easily. The journey from mettupalayam to Ooty a distance of 46 km's takes 4 hours.

Botanical Garden :-
   This 55 acres of land ascending the slopes on the hill 2500 mt's above MSL. It is a treasure house of temperate flora, flowering trees. This garden was laid out in 1847 by the Marquis of Tweedale and is spread over 55 acres.Lush green well maintained lawns, rare tree species (like the cork tree which is probably the only such tree in India, the paper bark tree and the monkey puzzle tree - monkeys cannot climb this tree), a 20 million year old fossilized tree, an Italian-style garden bordering a clear pool, a vast variety of flowering bushes and plants in myriad hues (exotic and ornamental), fern house with a vast range of ferns and orchids, are some of the many highlights of this garden.
Dodda Betta :-
This eminent range of heights which runs north south in the middle of the plateau is about 8 kms from Ooty. Its height is 2636 metres and it is the highest peak of Ooty.
Ooty, a beautiful hill station in the lap of the Nilgiris allures a large number of tourists throughout the year. There are many Tourist Attractions in Ooty that are all well worth a visit when on a sight seeing trip of Ooty. Featuring on top of the list is the Botanical Gardens in Ooty which is home to about 650 species of plants and trees.
Covering an extensive area of 55 acres, the Botanical Gardens in Ooty was laid way back in the year 1847 by the Marquis of Tweedale on the lower slopes of the Doddabetta Park. It is very well maintained to this date. The Horticulture Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu has been entrusted with the responsibility of looking after this garden. The Doddabetta Peak stands at an altitude of 2,623 meters.
Ooty Lake :-

The Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation maintains this famous lake which was constructed in 1825. A wide range of boats like Pedal boat, Row boat, Aqua boat etc are available. Dancing cars, mini trains are added attractions.

Pykara :-
The Pykara is the largest river in the district. It passes through hilly tract reaching the plateau’s edge. It gets down majestically in a series of 55 mts and 61 mts are known as Pykara Falls. This is about 20 kms from Ooty. Pointing out that these boats have become a major hit among the visitors a TTDC official said they could accommodate 10 persons each. Since they were all-weather boats a sum of Rs. 500 was being collected for a 20-minute ride.


Tea Museum :-

Tea Museum is a place to know about history of tea, you can seek yourself in the events in history that moulded the tea industry, absorbs the social customs and traditions that various cultures observe with regard to tea. Get a glimpse into what life is like on a tea plantation. You can also purchase high quality tea at the purchase counter.

Ketti Valley View :-

Located on the road to Coonoor, which is considered as second largest valley in the world. This spot is a cluster of tiny villages that extends to plains of coimbatore.

 

 

Avalanche :-

About 25 kms from Ooty, it is on the way to upper Bhavani via Emerald camp, the gorgeous scenery, the river from the top of the hill gives a magnificent sight.

 

 

Mudumali Wildlife Sanctuary :-

Mudumalai Wild Life reserve is a continuation of the Bandipur National Park. The river moyar that flows along the border of Tamilnadu & Karnataka separates the two. The 321 sq km reserve is situated in Tamil Nadu. The terrains extremely varied with hills, valleys ravines & swaps. The vegetation comprise of tropical forests, langur, tiger, leopard, wild dog, hyena, jackal, elephants, sambas, spotted deer are part of wild life.
A safari tour can be very interesting. The best time to visit the reserve is from February to June. The sanctuary can be reached by road.
